Comment Spam Invading The Blogosphere
According to Akismet , 92% of all comments are spam! There is no doubt that comment spam is invading the blogosphere, but at this rate we are talking about only 8% of comments are "acceptable", and that is too low.

Akismet is an antispam solution for bloggers useful for both trackback and comment spam. Their WordPress plug-in is available for download for personal use (free), or for commercial usage (with monthly fees), and was bundled in some new distributions like WP 2.0, Yahoo web hosting ...
David at Blogging Pro posted about the decision of b5media, a blogging network, to choose Akismet as their antispam solution. It's not a big deal compared to the solution that it provides, especially for trackbacks, otherwise for comments, captchas are excellent and can definitively stop spammers.
Seth Godin has a better solution to fight spam comments, he doesn't accept comments on his blog at all! But Seth does have other reasons, he finds that comments permanently change the way he writes "Instead of writing for everyone, I find myself writing in anticipation of the commenter.". It's a choice, but the fight for trackback spam is open!
Reading comments on Darren's post, you won't be surprised about the number of bloggers directly affected by the spam problem. But I'm wondering when comment and trackback spam will be considered harmful like email spam, and will be fought by laws for polluting the internet?
