BackupMyBlog, Remotely backups of your Blog

BackupMyBlog is a very interesting initiative to remotely create backups of your blog. Currently the system offer two location for remote storage and 10MB of free storage duing its beta test, backups include only database but there is plans to backup file also in the future. This is will be a great service not only for backup but it's very helpful for example to migrate your website from a hosting provider to another.

After validating the requirements for BackupMyBlog you can already start entering some information about your FTP and database then using very easy wizards you can create backups and restore direclty from the service. Restoring from backups provide you two option to download an SQL file or a PHP script to restore your database from the backup point. There is also backup reports accessible via RSS or email. Overall I find the idea pretty interesting, but it will certainly depend on the quality of BackupMyBlog service itself if it's able to keep the backups safe ?

Another good tool for your blog backup is SiteVault ( http://www.site-vault.com ). It takes a bit to configure but you can just forget about it until you need the latest backup restored ;).

If you are after a website backup solution that allows you to download your files and databases to your hard drive, and you use MAC OSX then there is another desktop software tool called Backup Smart. It runs on Windows / Linux as well. http://backup-smart.com
