Big Fonts is IN but not for Advertising
Today you may notice that Big Fonts is very IN, it looks very web 2.0 and personaly I simply love it. Many bloggers adopted big fonts here and there specially the 9rules network you'll be impressed by the quality of blog design. Big fonts have the advantage of not only making the website looks better but also increase the readability of the content. Reader won't have difficulty to notice the title in the page, eyes will make less effort to read and this scientificly have a positive effect.
In the other side bloggers are usually interested also into advertising, so the first thing I noticed with websites using big fonts that Ads receive less clicks than usual. The problem is that with common website you can make Ads fit with the design and probably confused to the content itself, but in case you are using Big fonts you will notice the difference that content is very different from ads. I have contacted before AdSense to talk about personalizing fonts but I don't think it will be an issue.
So in my opinion you have the choice, if you opt for advertising it's better to use normal fonts, it fit much better with Ads and you'll receive better CTR depending of course of the placement inside your page. If you want to make your website more IN try in this case to opt for more image ads rather than text ads. Try also other solution to monitize your website like sponsorships, create services, sell products ... etc.
We have experienced some advertising with the current design of phpmagazine.net and notice that we know already all the placement that can generate better clicks, and inspite of that the experience wasn't interesting. There was clicks but not enough to keep ads in the website and receiving almost very small revenue. Certainly we are currencly experimenting lot of new stuff, but I think it's a choice to take according to the strategy you want to take with your blog.
