Moving from LiveType to MoveableType

Finally I take the decision to move to MT, now when the site reach the 100 to 150 users online I can't access the administration anymore, comments could work and could not... Many things that make look for a "Solution" to continue this project.

Maybe I'm forcing the site too much, just few months that the site is launched and its already making traffic, the website is huge now about 560Mo ... ! Hey but we are just at the beginning. I tryed many solution, to not say all of them and finally decided to move to MT (Movable Type)

Moveable Type

I have about 20 template to convert, there is no solution to import data from LifeType to MovableType, specially the ressources ! Its long time that I didn't touch perl at all, it was since I discovered PHP. But the reasons for moving was not Perl or PHP, but because I found that the product is mature enough offering really great features for publishing blogs online.

I already started testing MovableType, I have written scripts to make the install more easy. I don't like unzipping in local then waiting for files to be uploaded one after the other, I uploaded the zip on server and then PHP unzip it, create the necessary foloders, copy the mt-static to root ... etc. And then the install is easy after changing two lines in the config file.

Ok the system is installed, running ok ! Login ... any username or password please ? I got to go googling to find the default username and password, I can understand why there is no support for free edition ! I'm in now !!

Personaly I didn't try it before, even I heared a lot about it and many friends are using Movable Type as their blogging plateform since years. My first impression was so great ! I loved so much the compact display, many small feature here and there but very useful ! I find myself familiar with the system in minutes and started configuring, installing plugins, testing ... etc.

Now what still worry me is to export the database from LifeType to MT. I have made the first step successful and generated file in the Movable Type Import Format, then easily import it and build the blog. Now I need to parse the articles and change the path to ressources with new ones, then move all the ressources to MT including files, images, sounds ... etc. I don't know yet from where to start, but I'll try to find my way.

I'll try to move the websites one after the other, then all links will be redirected to the new blogs and by the way all the urls will change, expecting the subdomains that I created in the beginning, which will be the host for every blog.
