Why growing slowly is good !
I have received many feedback for the previous article about steps from $0 to $1000 of monthly blogging revenue. Maybe because it was very near reality, and also based on real data and result obtained in my personal small experience. These days also confirmed my thoughts, why it is not easy to grow fastly, and its not good also !
I faced in the last days many technical problems, beginning with hosting and my blogging software. First let me say something about LifeType (aka pLog) blogging plateform, it was my choice for many technical reasons specially for its clean code and strategic reasons to give me the possibility to easily extend my network. But, there is many things that I have missed which was the maturity of this software to handle very high traffic and big database.
With the growing of this website, I had certainly lot of visitors which reached the 3000 daily visitor in the last days. The site should support this number and more easily, but in certain conditions. Many features that the development team are working on now and have implemented for the next version, LifeType cannot in the current time support them.
The result was the script consuming too much ressources, the site start exceeding very fastly the 40MB of memory usage and so serving error pages for everybody : HTTP ERROR 500. I have tryed to detect the high memory consumption and fix them, and today I notice that the website support better this high traffic.
I have thinked about migrating to another blogging plateform such Moveable Type, but I don't have big experience with this software and I'm not sure if it is performant to handle these problems. Also Moveable type for commercial use is very expensive and there is no budget for that. There is another thing, is that the first year is usually the year where you have to experience all the difficulties and learn from.
And next month (the 7 for me) I think I can work on my next target which is $20 daily. I have already reached this target many days this month, I think its time to reach it daily for the hole month. And fixing these memory leaks is one of the things that will make me reach this target.
