Mobile tools for bloggers
After some months of testing I've finally found a couple of interesting tools that helped me so much in moblogging. Tools are separeted into two main categories :
- Finding the information
- Blogging on my favorites blog
Mobile browser
To find the information a mobile web browser is necessary of course. I suggest you Opera Mobile and Netfront, both are excellent browsers with a lot of useful features for mobile. IE compared to them is worst browser I ever seen, slow, buggy, and also naviguation with it isn't confortable at all.
RSS tools
I have tested many RSS tools for mobile and the two that I've kept using are LiteFeed and Feedalot. The two concept are different, LiteFeed allow simply to manage your feeds via web browser and give you a java based software to allow accessing these feeds anywhere from your mobile phone. While Feedalot offer two interfaces web and mobile, It allows you to keep up-to-date with all your favorite sites and RSS feeds, as well as manage your feeds, find new feeds, and share items with friends. Feedalot service checks regularly all your RSS feeds and displays the latest news in a simple interface, anytime, anywhere.
Moblogging software
I have tryed almost all moblogging software on my imate smartphone and the nokia 6630. The only two that I kept are The nokia LifeBlog, of course for symbians phone only, and the second one is PicoBlogger by picostation. The most important feature that i was looking for is the number of blogging software supported so i can blog easily on blogger, phpmagazine and other websites also with the same tool. The best choice was Picoblogger for series 60 mobile phone. I use it before on blogger with my imate sp3, but there was only version 1.0 which don't have many great feature compared to the 2.5. The latest version of Picoblogger 2.5 for series 60 support Picostation, Blogger, LiveJournal, TypePad, Blogware, BlogHarbor, UpSaid, Flickr, TextAmerica, MovableType, WordPress, Blogger API, Atom API and MetaWeblog API.
Mobile websites
Finally some useful mobile websites that I usually use :
- Google Mobile
- Technorati Mobile
- Yahoo mobile
- Mobile AdSense (not official)
- MSN Spaces Mobile
And finally I found my moblog experience much better with nokia series 60 phone compared to the imate smartphone. More tools available, also naviguation is much better with symbians phone. Opera could be used also on windows mobile phones but I found its much faster on symbians.
Nokia is really more favorised in the moblogging market compared to windows based pdas or smartphones. Its also the reason that makes nokia develop lifeBlog, and I didn't buy a separated license of LifeBlog it was already preinstalled on my 6630. The Blogger's Mobile choice isn't it ?
